Dear parents / carers,
Every day, more and more schools and universities across the UK and the world are making the switch to open source and cloud technologies. We would like to be at the forefront of these technological advancements and would like to offer our students the opportunity to learn how to use them.
That is why we are excited to announce that we are running a trial using Chromebooks, in collaboration with Getech Education (a Google Premium partner). They sent us 30 Chromebooks which we can use it for free for the whole term – a massive thank you to them!
Chromebooks are special laptop computers, running Chrome OS, which is developed and maintained by Google. These are fast and secure devices with a focus on educational use. They come with a suite of free productivity and classroom management software like Google Docs and Google Classroom.
These devices allow students to learn, collaborate and work together in new ways, which have previously not been possible. As well as being fast, secure and free of viruses, they also have a lot of accessibility options which could enhance our students’ learning.
We will keep you updated on this trial but in the meantime we would like to involve you as well. If you’re interested please send me an email to endre.gal@westhavenschool.org.uk and we will send you an invitation to join your child’s Google Classroom. As a guardian, you can receive email summaries showing your child’s progress in classroom and you can change the frequency of these emails or unsubscribe at any time.
Thank you for your interest and we look forward to including you in this project.
Best regards,
Endre Gal
